New Britain Museum of American Art has a terrific exhibit on the walls of work by “Where the Wild Things Are” author Maurice Sendak. To complement that exhibit, the museum will show a version of the Christmas classic “The Nutcracker” designed by Sendak.

“The Nutcracker: The Motion Picture,” from 1986, is based on the original production by the Pacific Northwest Ballet, which was first presented 30 years ago. That production resulted in the publication of a “Nutcracker” book by Sendak, which became a best seller.

Showtimes are 1 and 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, at the museum, at 56 Lexington St. Admission is free with museum admission, which is $12, $10 seniors, $8 students, free for members and children younger than 12. Details: nbmaa.org
